UKRAINE OPENS TRAINING CENTER FOR NPPS' PROTECTIVE FORCE WITH US FUNDING

On June 2, 2021, in the city of Varash – a satellite city of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant in Western Ukraine – Ukrainian National Guard opened a new "Sarmat" facility to provide additional training to the guards protecting the nation's NPPs.

According to the National Guard's press service, the project was implemented within the framework of the Global Partnership with the US. US National Nuclear Security Administration provided the National Guard's units protecting nuclear facilities with more than USD 350 000 in aid.

The center is made of interconnected facilities, which can be used in different combinations. It includes mock-ups of hostages and adversaries, which can "fire" at the trainees. The facilitу is equipped with action cameras, a reconnaissance drone, equipment imitating the first aid and counter-sniper system.

The center will be used to train the servicemen of the military special services protecting critical state facilities as well as special forces of other governmental agencies.

According to the National Guard, the facility was opened ahead of schedule thanks to the active support from the Rivne NPP.
