IAEA INSPECTS NUCLEAR MATERIAL CONTROL AND ACCOUNTING SYSTEM AT UKRAINIAN NPP

From October 15 to 31, 2020, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors are conducting scheduled inspection at Unit N2, which is currently in a scheduled repair, and dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel of Zaporizhia NPP, Ukraine.

The inspection takes place within the framework of the Agreement between Ukraine and the IAEA for the Application of Safeguards in Connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The IAEA Inspectors will verify quantifies of nuclear material actually present at NPP Power Unit N2 after the removal of spent nuclear fuel from the Unit to dry storage facility. The inspectors will also seal spent nuclear fuel packages moved to dry storage facility, maintain the surveillance equipment and review the nuclear material control and accounting records and reports, as well as operational records.

Earlier this year, Zaporizhia NPP host similar inspections at Unit N3 and Unit N6.
