IAEA HELD ANOTHER NUCLEAR MATERIAL CONTROL AND ACCOUNTING SYSTEM INSPECTION AT UKRAINIAN NPP

On November 3 – 15, 2020, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors held another scheduled inspection at Unit N5, which is currently in a scheduled repair, and dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel of Zaporizhia NPP, Ukraine. In October 2020, Zaporizhia NPP hosted similar inspections at Unit N2.

The inspection took place within the framework of the Agreement between Ukraine and the IAEA for the Application of Safeguards in Connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The IAEA Inspectors verified quantifies of nuclear material actually present at the spent fuel storage pool of the Unit N5 prior the removal of spent nuclear fuel from the Unit to dry storage facility. The inspectors also sealed spent nuclear fuel packages, maintained the surveillance equipment and reviewed the nuclear material control and accounting records and reports, as well as operational records.
